1992 cricket world cup
Once again the official name of the 5th
edition of the cricket world cup has changed as Benson and Hedges world cup
1992.It was held from 22 February to 25 March 1992 In Australia and New Zealand
because they were the host countries in the tournament.
This tournament was quite special
because there were many changes. 9 teams participated and played 39 matches in
Round-Rabin format which introduced to the cricket in this tournament. There
were two Semi Finals. One was between Pakistan and New Zealand which won by
Pakistan and the second one between England and South Africa which won by
England. Finals was really excited but defeating England Pakistan became the
winner of the tournament at the Melbourne cricket Ground on 25 March 1992. This
was quite special for the Pakistan cricket team except become winners because
this tournament was the Imran Khan’s last ODI.
There are many firsts to be consider
about like this tournament was the 1st to feature coloured player
clothing with white cricket balls than red. Not only that but also the world
cup to include South Africa. And it was the 1st tournament held in
southern hemisphere.
